dbClifford (aka: Daniel Clifford) is a multi-talented musician and songwriter of French and British descent.
Although originally from south west France, dbClifford is known to have lived in Los Angeles, London, and various Canadian cities. At an early age dbClifford’s talent was quickly recognized. He was locally known for his songwriting, vocal skills and his multi-instrumental talent on the drums, piano, guitar and bass. By the age of 18, Clifford attended the prestigious C.I.A.M. School of Music in Bordeaux, France and was discovered upon graduation by some of the music industry’s biggest names. In 2002, Clifford and his long-time collaborator, William Cartwright, were signed to NuAmerica/Interscope as a pop/soul duo under the name of Supanova. Shortly after moving to Los Angeles however, Clifford lost his mother and was forced to return to France. In 2004 he recorded, Recyclable, his first full length solo album in his home studio in south west France.
By the end of 2005 dbClifford had signed with Nettwerk Management and Nettwerk One (Publishing) and in early 2006 he signed on with Sony BMG Music (Canada) Inc. In 2007, Recyclable was released in Canada, Japan (his single “Don’t Wanna” reached the number one position on the international radio charts for three weeks), Holland and France. Clifford played all the instruments on the album and wrote, recorded and produced all the songs. Critics raved about the sophisticated musicianship and dbClifford’s ability to create such an intricate debut album without any help from fellow songwriters or producers. Shortly after the album’s release, word spread about his live show and he was soon touring North America and Europe with well known acts like James Blunt, Counting Crows and festival headliners such as Amy Winehouse.
For his sophomore album, Feet Above The Ground (dbCprod, 2010), dbClifford tuned into a darker side of his musical influences such as Nirvana, Led Zeppelin, Traffic and Soundgarden yet tried to stay true to his soul/pop/jazz roots that were so prevalent on his first album such as Jamiroquai, Elton John and The Beatles. The album was recorded in his home studio in south west France, dbClifford played all the instruments on the album and wrote, recorded and produced all the songs. Clifford also directed and produced the music video for the album’s title track.
dbClifford recently finished recording his third solo album which will include collaborations with many of his favourite musicians and friends as well as a brand new live show. The album will be released in the UK in October 2017.
Unlike most recording artists, dbClifford prizes originality over popularity and is known to make career choices with his love of music in mind rather than money or fame. He is a performer, musician, producer and songwriter but considers himself an artist above all else.
