Abbey Road Studio 2 sessions
POSTED: 06/01/17 04:20 PM
It’s the most famous recording studio in the world and after many live performances in Studio 2, dbClifford had the immense pleasure of recording some of the pianos that were used on many of The Beatle’s songs (including Mrs Mills) as well as vocals and percussions for his new album. Strings for three new songs were also recorded in Studio 2 and were arranged and directed by James Seymour Brett.
Metropolis Studios, London. Horn section extraordinaire!
POSTED: 16/12/16 10:00 AM
Quincy Jones, Jamiroquai, The Who, Amy Winehouse, Blur, George Michael, Level 42, Phil Colins, Grace Jones, Queen and Jamie Cullum are just some of the artists these legendary musicians have played with. What an honour to have Johnny Thirkell (horn arrangements/trumpet), Dave Bishop (sax/flute) and Neil Sidwell (trombone) recording on dbClifford’s third album at one of the most iconic studios in London: Metropolis Studios (engineered by Joby Baker).
Recording in Victoria BC at Baker Studios
POSTED: 28/09/16 19:00 PM
dbClifford has arrived at Baker Studios in Victoria BC to start recording bed tracks for his third solo album surrounded by his friends and long time musical partners Joby Baker, John Cartwright and Rick May. Most of the songs will be recorded live off the floor.
Joby Baker mixed Recyclable, dbClifford’s first album and will be co-producing and engineering these new sessions using the best vintage equipment in the word. His incredible collection of vintage mics, drums, keyboards and bass guitars will bring a much more sophisticated sound to db’s songs which will no doubt compete with the John Mayers and Jamie Cullum’s of this world. Joby will also be playing drums, bass and Hammond Organ on some of the songs.
John Cartwright, who co-wrote seven of these news songs and has performed along side dbClifford for twenty years, will be playing guitar, keyboard and bass parts on most of the album and will certainly play a big part in the album’s production and vibe.
Rick May has played bass for dbClifford over the past ten years on practically every live performance however the two have never recorded together before. Rick’s years of playing with greats such as Andy Summers, Depeche Mode and Michael Jackson will be a stellar addition.

Live @The Scotch, December 4th 2012
On the 24th September 1966 a then unknown musical prodigy named Jimi Hendrix landed in the U.K from The States with only 40 bucks in his pocket and a guitar in his hand. That same night Hendrix found himself at THE SCOTCH of St James, having been taken there by Chas Chandler, bass player of The Animals. Whilst there Hendrix asked politely to play with the house band. They appeared bemused but relented to accommodate him. Plugging in his guitar he preoccupied himself with fiddling with the house amp, turning every knob that could be adjusted to full volume, thus challenging the mortality of the equipment and one might say the audience! He then launched into his own version of ”Wild Thing” by The Troggs, shattering the uber cool nonchalance of THE SCOTCH of St James. The speakers were almost blown off their hinges.
When finished he was met by a deep wall of silence and an audience left open mouthed. A lone clapping hand could be heard at the back of the room. John Lennon was clearly impressed. This lead to more clapping of hands slowly building into a deafening crescendo, rarely seen at THE SCOTCH. The Prodigal son had arrived.
THE SCOTCH of St James was one of the single most important and influential venues in London during the swinging 60’s. Some might say it played a pivotal role in creating it. THE SCOTCH of St James was the home and hangout of many a household name, such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Rod Stewart, Stevie Wonder, The Kinks, The Moody Blues, The Who, The Animals and many more. It was the place where any musical artists of note or merit would hangout or perform in order to touch the zeitgeist of the time. The Rare Book Shop, next door to THE SCOTCH once had an exhibition by artist Yoko Ono and was attended by Paul McCartney who brought his band mate John Lennon and the rest, is history.

dbClifford performs @Oxjam 2012 in Clapham
POSTED: 10/09/12 17:32 PM
Growing each and every year, Oxjam has quickly become the UK’s biggest music festival, with hundreds of events taking place all over the UK every October. Since its beginning in 2006 there have been over 3,500 events, with more than 45,000 musicians and 900,000 attendees. All of this has raised over £1.75 million for Oxfam’s work in the UK and abroad – which is enough to pay for 15,000 emergency shelters; 70,000 goats or 1050 classrooms. Set out to be South West London’s hottest new music festival, this year Oxjam is coming to Clapham for the first time on Saturday 13th October 2012. Different to any other Clapham music festival, Oxjam will be taking over Clapham High Street – where one wristband will give you access to multiple venues and almost one hundred acts all in one day! Acts include Hot Chip & Friends’ Vinyl Emporium, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs and Graham Coxon.

dbClifford live @The Purple Turtle
POSTED: 14/08/12 12:37 PM
This is a great late night live music venue situated in the heart of Camden, just 30 seconds away from Mornington Crescent tube station, under the steady gaze of KoKo. Housed across two floors, The Purple Turtle is something of a grotty urban gothic affair with heavy industrial looking pillars and aluminium walkways leading up to the second floor, with great views of the main stage. They’ve also had some big bands grace the stage here such as The Datsuns, Tom Vek, The Bishops, Towers of London and Orange Goblin to name a few.
dbClifford live @The Troubadour
POSTED: 15/06/12 15:00 PM
Since 1954, the famous Troubadour Club has been a hotbed of emerging talent and a leading light in excellent musicianship and live music. From its early incarnation as a folk venue, and counter-culture den of creativity, The Troubadour Club has remained at the forefront of interesting, original music and spoken word events with a great reputation for originality and atmosphere. Although now twice its original size, The Troubadour Club remains true to its roots as the private cellar beneath the café and is one of the most exciting small music venues in town.
